Program Info

I'm very excited you or your son are showing interest to join us as a squire.  Heres a few things I can tell you about the program.

ELIGIBILITY 

  • Must be between the ages of 10 and 18
  • Must be a catholic or willing to attend catholic activities, churches and discussions.

COSTS

  • Membership only costs $10 annually, and goes directly to the squires to support the circle.
  • The Squires have their own bank account they use to budget for special events, charities, fund-raisers and activities.
  • A few fun activities will most likely come up that will need some extra money to do if not fund-raised.
  • A squires shirt can be ordered that has the squire's name and crest on it.

 MEETINGS

  • Meetings are held twice a month except during the summer or on special holidays which the meeting will be moved to an earlier or later date.
  • Normally held at the same place unless otherwise informed.
  • Meetings are run by the the squire, for the squires.
  • A Knight acts as a councilor during the meeting to advise the squires when assistance is needed.
  • There are two types of meetings, BUSINESS and FUN.
  • Business meetings are formal meetings run by the squires to do all of the organizing and planning stages for events, news, trips, and anything else, all gets discussed here.
  • Fun meetings are exactly that, we play games like floor hockey, basketball, etc, or possibly watch movies, video games, or anything else, it all depends on what gets planned at the business meetings.
  • Parents are more than welcome to attend any meetings and even participate in the fun meetings and activities that we do.

 WHAT THE SQUIRES GET OUT OF THE PROGRAM

  • Many new skills, like event planning, organization, business, leadership and social skills.
  • Meet new friends for life.
  • Part of a worldwide organization developed to promote youth leadership.
  • Great opportunity to be a helping member of the community as well as build up that resume for the good ole job hunt. Squires does count towards your community service hours for high school.
  • Chance to run for positions within the circle; Different positions include... Chief Squire - the leader of the group, Deputy Chief - helps the chief and runs meetings when chief is absent, Notary - in charge of taking all the minutes for the meeting, Bursar - in charge of the financial aspects of the circle, Marshall - In charge of keeping order of the group with parliamentary procedures, Sentry - in charge of who is present.
  • The squires get what they put into the program. If everyone helps and contributes, then the rewards are life-changing and unforgettable.
  • The squires grow in their relationship with God through prayer, church, and brotherhood.

PERKS

  • Squires receive membership incentives by bringing new members into the circle,for every new member, you receive a CD case, and your name entered in a draw for a nice CD player. Other prizes as well.
  • Every year we attend a Squires Convention normally in St. Catherine's, This is a great 3 day event where the squires meet other squires from around the province and vote or even run for the new provincial board (the provincial level squires circle in charge of sub-circles) also is the chance to receive awards and recognition for past service.
  • Along with convention is also the summer camp where the squires will once again see their new provincial board and the rest of the squires from around the province. Many activities will be held here for the squires.
  • Membership card included when you become a squire that can be used in any province or state at any squire circle to attend their meeting or fun night.
